Labor Day Review

Happy Labor Day weekend, fellow Americans!  In the spirit of the holiday in which we celebrate hard work, I am writing this review of cloth wipes made by my friend & fellow Mama, Amy.  These wipes will soon be for sale in her Etsy shop, so keep a keen eye out!

I wrote about our experience with cloth diapering already, & I had indicated that, in lieu of special cloth wipes, we had opted to use cheap baby washcloths.  We have 24 assorted colorful washcloth wipes folded up in "pop-up" style in our Oxo wipes case on the changing table.  We liked how one side of the washcloth was smooth, & the other slightly scrubby, but still gentle on baby skin.  We also liked that it was a cheap option that was easy to replace should something happen, like loss or damage or some other unforeseen & rather unlikely scenario.  We used one cloth for pee diapers, & 2-4 cloths for poo diapers, depending on how intense the situation was.  But we had plenty of cloths on hand, so it didn't matter to us.

Then Amy sent Rue a gift of cloth wipes!  We loved the stamps on the packing envelope.  It was like a quilt's patchwork of cute art.  Then we smiled over the sweet little ribbon tying our new wipes together.  Amy also included a really sweet note.

I put the wipes (already stripped & treated with Rockin' Green detergent by Amy) on top of our usual wipes container, essentially making it impossible to miss the new wipes if you auto-piloted to the old ones.  These wipes are made of two layers of soft, absorbent flannel, with a serged edge.

They were obviously super-cute.  Amy had made the "Rue exclusive" camera print for us, but included some of her seconds for me to try & review.  These were in three different patterns, & some were not perfectly symmetrical, but they lose no function!

The camera print wipes that were made for Rue are perfectly symmetrical, as would be the wipes bought in her shop.  We were surprised at how durable & strong these wipes are!  A massive poo, which used to require up to 4 wipes, was cleared up with a single wipe.  Rue seems to like how they feel on her bum; super soft fabric probably is a nice sensation after sticky poo!  haha

scale

They are just the right thickness; just thick enough to be strong & keep messes on one side, & thin enough to fit in my Munchkin travel wipes case.  This case is intended for store-bought disposable wipes, but can hold 4 of these cloth wipes.  Considering the case is only 1" thick & the wipes have to be doubled over, that isn't too bad.  We are hardly ever out longer than one or two diaper changes, anyway!

Of course, the beauty of cloth wipes is that they can just be tossed into the diaper bag, as they will not dampen or stain everything.  They can easily be popped in with the diapers without being in a case.  No worries.  I just tried the case out to give you a better idea of scale.

These wipes earned the highest rating available in my house: Ted likes them.  A lot.  He admits that, if I were not so persistent, he would have given up on CDing long long ago, so when we find something about the routine that he likes, it's like striking gold!  So, Amy's wipes get the Daddy Seal of Approval!

Happy Labor Day to one & all!  Keep working hard out there.  As for me, I am working on organizing some mini-sessions for the first two weekends of October for Halloween & autumn portraits... so if you are local, keep your calendars open those Saturdays!  There will be 9 slots per day, first come, first serve!  Details to follow.

Ketchup

Let's catch up.

Lately, these are things in my life:

* I photographed this cutie again!

* And then I photographed this high school senior; she's an amazing young lady!

*Today I had a job interview (wish me luck!).

* I am tossing around the idea of trying the photography business again... I am gathering thoughts, planning, taking practical assessments of taxes & boring business stuff, & basically getting my ducks in a row.  Let's not get too excited just yet!

* Eating healthier & trying to exercise a little every day.  Usually this results in morning walks, or, when pressed for time, simply parking further away from my job & walking a little that way.  I have consumed a ton of fruits & veggies lately, cut out all sodas (but ginger ale, I love me some ginger ale!), & started drinking 5-10 glasses of water a day (we are not talking 8 ounce glasses of water here.  These are 12-16 ounce servings...yes, I float around with all those fluids!).

What have you been up to?  Post me a link to your own "ketchup" post, or simply fill me in in the comments!

Baby TAC

Last week a friend of ours gave birth to a beautiful baby boy!  He's so tiny & sweet!  My Mom & I went to visit them in the hospital & I snapped a few photos for posterity.  I will get to photograph this sweet little guy every month of his first year!  I am so excited to watch him grow up!

Look at how dainty that ear is!

We have a lot of babies in our lives at the moment.  I have another niece on the way, an almost 6-month-old niece at home, & lots of friends who are new mommies & daddies!  I guess it's expected after the three years of weddings...

Hope you enjoyed the cuteness!

Sneak Peek!

Remember my last post about being a secret agent?  (Or, as my pal Squeebie put it... "I have a secret & all this cool stuff is happening, but hey... here's a bunch of pictures of Squeebie instead" post.)

Anyway, I asked if I could leak a sneak peek & was told YES.  So, what was I doing?  I was photographing the very talented Ms. Jennifer Cooper of GrooveSpan with the very talented Ms. Heather Brooks.  It was an amazing experience, & I was lucky enough that the Port Tobacco Players theatre generously allowed us use of their rehearsal space to make a studio space.

What are the photos for?  Well, that part is still under wraps for now.  But I am really excited about this project & cannot wait until it all comes to fruition!

It's amazing what backdrops & some creative lighting can make out of an otherwise simple space!

College Friends

friendsfromcollege

So, last Sunday I drove out to a state park I had never been to before to meet up with my friends Elise & Colleen from college.  Elise has a husband & two adorable little girls now, so we met up for a photoshoot for the kiddos.

It was an overcast day, but not too terrible.  It rained a very little, but mostly the clouds acted as one giant diffuser... perfect for portraiture!

Meet Sofie.  She was our leader on the shoot, which was really a follow-the-leader & occasionally stop & smile at the strange lady with the camera day.

She's big sister to little Rosie, who spent almost the entire time sleeping.  I got a few cute photos of the two of them, & a couple adorable ones of Rosie by herself as well, but I got a TON of fun shots of Sofie as an adventurer.  I think my niche is kids.

We adventured ourselves to exhaustion.  Then we drove a town over to have lunch at Ledo's.  It was a ton of fun hanging out with Elise & Colleen again... I haven't seen them in forever!  Colleen since college... Elise since Sofie was a newborn!

See?  They grow up so fast!  We're working on a plan to hang out again in October & go to a pumpkin patch!  I can't wait!
