Belated Posting

I'm not gonna lie... lately I have been drawing a blank about what to write here. Since all but abandoning the fairly rigid guidelines I had created for myself when beginning this blog, being the three weekly features on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and realizing my life is probably not interesting enough to enumerate in detail, my blogging enthusiasm has falling by the wayside.

I am done trying to be someone else's blog and lately have entered a phase in my life and business centered around being true to myself.  Even if I am not entirely sure how to accomplish that, or what I am all about all the time, I feel that the blogs and businesses I really admire follow a similar mantra.  So, let's try again, shall we?

I am no longer going to try to stick to a routine.  I may not blog every day.  I will do it when I feel inspired, so as to spare you all these mundane, meandering explanations of myself and my posting!

So today I am posting those MDRF pictures from Sunday.  Despite my rather firey emotions of the day, and the ones I still harbor towards it, I got a few fairly decent photographs out of it!

I also have a plan for tomorrow's post and Friday's, but Thursday is in the realm of "whatever-may-happen".  So, bear with me.  We're in for an interesting ride.

The tall, iridescent glass will be our wedding glasses, since we are incorporating so many colors!  I really, really wish I had all those autumny halloweeny glassworks for our home this season, but it's not really practical considering the cats own the house and we merely pay rent for them!  haha

All of these were taken using my new 50mm f/1.4 lens that I am IN LOVE with!

Isn't it cute?  It's AMAZING for portraiture and pet photography, which is practically all I do, so I foresee using it all the time!  More on that later...

ALSO, today is Patchie's Boy's birthday, so after work I am meeting up with everyone else at the bar to celebrate with them!  Happy Birthday, Boy!

Happy Tuesday night!  xo

A Crazy Weekend

welcome

On Saturday, we took my step-niece-in-law to a fairly local pumpkin patch and corn maze.  This place was HUGE!  We had a ton of fun winding through the maze, riding the "train" around the field and spotting geese, dragging ourselves through complicated-for-adults hay bale mazes intended for children (hey, I am an indulgent aunt, which results in an exhausted aunt eventually), and picking the perfect pumpkins.  The corn maze at this place was crazy, and from the air apparently it is the local baseball league's emblem and name!  From inside, it's just a whole lot of corn and rope and children.

(Psstt... did you see Lil' Man up there?  We randomly ran into Yseult and her family at the pumpkin patch!!!)

Then we had plans to go to MDRF on Sunday...and I may have learned i need help with my anger management!

Seriously, we head off to MDRF by 11am on Sunday, and managed to get there after 3pm due to intense traffic.  Then, the place was so packed, I wanted to turn around and leave, but we were there with the family, so we tried to locate everyone.  Of course, there was an overabundance of people on their cell phones, which resulted in dropped calls and unavailable airwaves.  An hour after getting to the faire (and a lot of angry cussing and glaring on my part) we finally found part of the group.  After another half hour, everyone was together again.  By this time, it was almost time for my step-niece-in-law to be taken to the drop off spot where her mom was coming to get her.  So the whole point in going was to spend some time with her at faire and get cute pictures, and we only managed to hang out with her for a half hour, and I barely took any photos (none of them are up yet, so maybe I'll share what I did get later... maybe).  So, after she left, and we figured out wedding glasses with Bear's parents, we decided, after two and a half hours of faire time, to get out before the big migration to the parking lot happened and we would be stuck in more traffic.  We got into the car an hour and a half before the closing cannon sounded, and left the parking lawn an hour after the cannon.  It took forever to leave!  At this point, I was hoping someone would burn the place down so I felt like there was some redemption in our miserable day.  Of course, the faire will live to see another day.  Meanwhile, I have no intention of going back this year (they have enough of our money), or maybe never again.

I know I have a ton of friends who live for the faire and will probably feel like this is a huge insult to their favorite place.  I just don't enjoy the place like some people do.  I have no ill will against the people who love it.  We just have different interests.  For one, I am the worst at paying attention to any live performance, as ironic as that is.  I don't like most plays, I have never liked Shakespeare, and I am not big on parody music (or live music, which annoys a lot of other people I know).  I never wear the garb I do buy, with the exception of a couple of staple pieces, and I never seem to wear any of the jewelry I have bought from the faire, either.  I feel the drinks and food are overpriced, and the atmosphere isn't really my thing, either.  I get irritated by the hollering vendors trying to sell pretzels, roses, cheesecakes on sticks, and nuts.  I just don't enjoy the whole scene anymore; the novelty has worn off, and the hassels for me outweigh the perks.

Granted, my last experience was really, really outrageously terrible and though it's usually not that bad, even on a good day I find I lack the enthusiasm of my friends.  I can only conclude it isn't my thing.

Actually, I have been doing a lot of thinking about what I used to enjoy and no longer do.  I used to be into the theatre stuff, always in a show or helping out, loving conversations about all things theatrical.  Lately, the theatre also has lost it's charm on me.  I appreciate many of the people it has brought into my life, and I will cherish the good memories I have.  I'm just not that girl anymore.  Sure, I will still audition for a show or two in my future, I am sure, but gone are the days of juggling up to eight shows at once.  I just don't have the passion for it I once did.

Ren Fest is the same way.  Once, I was really into going, dressing up, making a full day of it with my friends.  Now?  I would rather get the cleaning done at the house that I never get around to doing during the week, or book more sittings, or go on a mini photo-safari.  Edit together a short film for fun.  Read a good book.  This is the new direction, I guess.  As life goes on, I have become a homebody.  I love being at home, working on things around the house.  I have to decorate for Halloween and the fall season in general, and I am really upset with myself for not having done that yet.

I have so much to do that I feel guilty about spending my money and time at places I can barely afford either for.  I guess it's the result of growing up and gaining responsibility.  Bills, groceries, rent, business expenses, insurance, phone, debts, internet costs, credit cards... it becomes hard to track and takes up a lot more time than it did five years ago!

Anybody else feel this way?  Like you've drastically changed in your interests and passions over the years?

Happy Monday!  xo

Photobomb Friday: MDRF 2

The belated MDRF post!  This is from a couple weeks ago.  This time around, we met up with lots of friends, including Yseult and her adorable family!  It was a great time had, and new to the tap was Angry Orchard cider.  It was soooo good!  It made my later mug of Hardcore taste vastly inferior, and it used to be my favorite!

Without any further ado... here's the Photobomb!

And look at this cute little autumn decoration!!!

Halloween Glass Pumpkin!

We'll be headed back there this Sunday with the family!  AND I got my 50mm f/1.4 lens in the mail, just in time for a portrait session tomorrow!  So next week I hope to have a collection of images taken with my new lens!  YAY!

Happy weekend!

Melancholy Monday

I think there is just something about today that has a lot of people on edge.  I saw a lot of comments on Facebook about how it's a wrong-side-of-the-bed kinda day, and I happen to agree.

Six months ago today, we lost one of the best kids I will ever know here on Earth.  The anniversary is bittersweet; sad that he is gone, but a reminder of how wonderful he was and the legacy he left behind.  Also, I found out a guy I knew since fourth grade passed today.  Another notch in the sad stick.

So I don't really have much to talk about, other than lots of prayers are being said in our hometown for these individuals and others.

The Ferris Wheel

This week I have a ton of photos and maybe a video to share from this last weekend.  We went to a neighboring county fair with Bear's family, since our niece was with us for the weekend.  I learned that the kiddie rides are not built for adults (even small ones) and when the kid needs an adult to accompany them on the rides, the carnies get a good laugh.  I also learned that a car with four-wheel drive can still slide in the copious amount of mud churned into ruts by the wheels of hundreds of other cars.

Renaissance Redhead

We also went to MDRF on Sunday and met up with a ton of friends.  I even had my portrait taken by Ken of Yenra!  He's super talented and a ton of fun to photo-geek with!  So, in an attempt to fight of the icks of the day, I urge you all to check out his photography Facebook and/or Flickr and get into the spirit of Faire... before I post my photos here later this week!

I hope you are having a happier day, wherever you are!  I'll be back tomorrow, bright-eyed and full of enthusiasm!

PS- the last of the images in this post is a Yenra image; both images are found on Flickr and link back to their original sources.

Photobomb Friday: MDRF

Well, the college was closed yesterday and apparently all state parks are closed due to major flooding as well, which gives me a four-day weekend.  We have major sinkholes eating up parts of the main highway, and our little road is basically washed away, but so far the house itself hasn't sustained any damage. I hope our luck holds seeing as we potentially have another three days of torrential downpours to look forward to!  Honestly, between the earthquake, Irene, and these storms and flooding... I am beginning to wonder if I should start making religion a big part of my life again!  It's possibly the end of the world, and all I can think about is how I'm going to go crazy if I am stuck inside much longer!

Anyway, today is a photobomb of our Sunday at Maryland Renaissance Festival!  We met up with a group of friends and had a pretty terrific time!  Usually I am talked into buying something handmade and expensive, often a corset, which I then never wear.  I like to breathe too much, I suppose.  This time, Bear and I invested in these gorgeous wooden mugs that I cannot stop using!  I am drinking my tea from it right now... as I type!

I particularly enjoy the Trekkies.  Random!  I didn't take very many pictures this time, but we'll be back.  As always, you can see more photos on my Flickr!  You can get there by the button on the right sidebar!  I just redid those buttons to go with the new fall theme!  All three pictures were taken with my iPhone 3GS and edited on the Instagram app.

Well, the rainy days have done a few good things.  One, we are catching up on sleep!  Two, we watched the extended edition of all three Lord of the Rings movies, which I haven't seen since they were in theatres.  Three, we plan on doing some cleaning, and I also hope to have time at the piano!  So far, it hasn't been too bad.  Just wet, humid, and not very friendly to the roads.

I hope you are doing well wherever you are!

Have a wonderful weekend, and I hope I will be back on Monday!

PS- Be sure to click the "Blogging Worldwide" icon to the right to visit Mary Rebecca's blog and see the list of other bloggers around the world who participated in her round up!  You may find someone you really like there... I already found two or three new bloggers I am interested in learning more about, and I haven't really had a chance to check them all out yet!  Not to mention she's still working on putting up all the lists!  I think the States were the first country posted, so there is definitely a lot more to come!
