As promised, I am posting a really short film I put together for a couple friends who got married a little while ago. Okay, a long while ago. Like, January of this year. I am a slacker.
I am also not the best cinematographer, as you will notice by the shaky quality of the video. I tried to save it in editing, but you can really only do so much...anyway, it is what it is and I think it turned out MUCH better than my initial belief!
The sniffles bit is just because I have been stricken ill, for the first time in years, and I hate it. I actually am not very sniffly at all... it's all chest congestion and difficulty breathing. Ugh. I hope this passes soon. If you don't hear from me for a while, it means I am wrapped up in blankets sleeping through a drugged haze until this illness passes.

Wedding Wednesday: Artistic Flair
I have seriously been slacking on my posting! Saturday I spent almost all day sleeping off a sickness until the Doctor Who showing and dinner with friends (aka Dinner with the Doctor), Sunday was spent at the MDRF with most of the PARF crew, and Monday was a holiday and we packed it with a roadtrip to Solomon's Island, stopping by at Annmarie Garden and the Calvert Marine Museum (where I shot my last wedding!). Yesterday it was pouring cats and dogs and work was ridiculously busy (part of my job involves making student ID cards, and we made over 270!). Today it is also raining all day long and the road the college is located off of is flooded at both ends... and here I am in the library working anyway. At least Bear drove me in to work in his SUV... a MUCH better alternative in these high waters than my little Honda!
Anywho... weddingness. I think we found our venue! Bear and I spent our Monday shenanigans with my parents in Solomon's. I had hoped to marry in an artistic venue, and Annmarie has the look, feel, and price we were looking for! They have so many things going on all year round, and we happened to arrive for two exhibits and a little fairy house scavenger hunt! Some of the chalk drawings remained from that event, and some of the classic art reproductions painting in tree knots managed to survive for us as well! The property has a ton of permanent sculptures and installations as well as participating with the Smithsonian, which brings in work from around the world. It was truly a magical experience!
And Bear and I tried our hand at portraiture of one another...

Wedding Wednesday: an Update
So, this past weekend we had planned to go check out some possible venues for our wedding... and that clearly did not happen! Due to natural interference, we were all forced indoors instead.
As I mentioned yesterday, Bear and I ended up staying at my parents' house, which actually lent itself to some planning! Mom and I had come up with centerpiece ideas for the tables and had some supplies to play with, which we did! Here's a sneak peek at the centerpieces...

Work's been pretty hectic and we're just about to enter the busiest time of our year... the first week of Fall semester classes. I will try to diligently post, but my posts may be later than usual since we'll be going back to late hours at work. Hopefully you'll bear with me!

Wedding Wednesday: First Meeting
I had my first wedding meeting with my girls last weekend. My mom was out of town and unable to attend, but we did get some things figured out.
We had mimosas, muffins and fruit... and I even brought along my planner... even though I didn't write anything in it. I guess I am smartphone dependent.
My current job is to find a venue. I want something quirky, and ideally I was hoping for something personal to Bear and I, rather than some place we picked off a list. I know I DO NOT want a hall or a church since we aren't practicing any religion, and I am also avoiding firehouses, community multi-purpose buildings, etc. like the plague. I hate the lighting in most of those places, which is important to me from a photographic standpoint, and Bear as a lighting designer. We also really want a location that we can hang things like lighting and decor, and ideally a place where we can do that the day before the wedding. So, we are looking hard, but not many areas accommodate all that!
Are any of you getting married out there? What venue criteria do you have?

Wedding Wednesday: Simple is Key
One of my friends from high school was married this past Saturday. It was a gorgeous wedding, and so very THEM. I know, because I was the hired photographer, and I was lucky to have Patchie second shoot for me again!
And Patchie got a great couple of shots of me climbing out on the lighthouse to get a group shot of everyone in attendance!

The wedding took place at the Calvert Marine Museum, and the bride chose to let the natural setting be the focus, accentuating it with some simple details, like shells on the table. Her mother made the cake, which was beautiful AND delicious! Her brother and father played music; her brother played selections on the saxophone as guests arrived, and her father sang a song after the ceremony while accompanying himself on guitar. The guest count was relatively small, but the love was hard to miss. The whole event was gorgeous and simple, but burst at the seams with all the emotional fuzzies that weddings are supposed to bring about.
Today I am posting some detail shots for you. Some are by Patchie, others by myself. All are under the MET Photography umbrella.
And Patchie got a great couple of shots of me climbing out on the lighthouse to get a group shot of everyone in attendance!

Wedding Wednesday: Saying Thank-You
Something that is very important to me, insofar as weddings go, is thanking the people who are sharing in your big day! Bridesmaids, groomsmen, and families are often recipients of gifts, ranging from jewelry to flasks and beyond. Guests often take home anything from bookmarks to candy to bubbles and more.
I am in the unique position of finding myself surrounded by truly talented people who are generously volunteering their gifts for our wedding; we have friends and family to take care of almost everything from photography (my Aunt) to make up (my friend Jessica) to music (friend and DJ Christian) and bar-tending (always tip your bartenders and be sure to learn their names... they could come through for you someday!). Since most of these people are insisting on providing some sort of service as a wedding gift, I am intent on finding a gift for them all! Some people may not see this as a necessity, but as a photographer, I have to say getting a little thank-you note or small token is always touching. If you are in a similar position as we are, or if you simply want to thank your professionals, I have compiled some sites and products for finding a great gift for those outside of the party/family/guest parameters.

Wedding Wednesday: Pinterest
Okay, I succumbed. I was a little nervous that I had to "request an invitation" to join... which I guess is a precaution to ensure that the servers aren't over worked? Anyway, I have had enough people tell me I HAD TO GET an account, that it was so helpful to them for planning a scheme, I crumbled. I like things that are nice and easy... don't you? It seemed easier than downloading a million images and making a huge collage... and it keeps track of where I found things online in the first place (in case those inspirational things become actual elements later on down the road)!

Wedding Wednesday: Real Weddings and Planning via Bloggers II
I am actually getting excited about planning our wedding again! This puts Bear in a good mood, or as he says, "oh, good, you want to marry me again?!" For the record, I never wanted to NOT marry him, but I would like to avoid some of the pressure of planning a wedding. I have a lot of strong-willed individuals in my life who all are giving a lot of input about what our focus should be, the venue, the food, the music, the attire, everything. I am a people pleaser, so it's difficult for me to just say HERE, THIS IS WHAT I WANT! The only upside to that is I am fairly certain I won't become a bridezilla. At least, I hope not.
Anyway, I am back to the three most influential weddings for me in the blogiverse. I am such a sucker for the bright colors, whimsical feel and handmade elements!
First up is Elsie of A Beautiful Mess and her lovely wedding! I love the jewel tones, which I also plan to use (hey, jewel tones look lovely on pale people and my party, groom, and self are all pretty pale). She even used the straws I am looking into, library cards, a candy bar... and everything is so whimsical and handmade without looking non-cohesive. LOVE IT. It makes me happy to see so many elements I've wanted to incorporate look so good in a wedding context!
Second up is the wonderful Elycia of <3elycia! I love the few sneak peeks she has shared so far! I also recommend if anyone is looking to get married soon, check out her Wedding Guests feature. So many wonderful DIY ideas and some just plain fun and quirky guest posts!
Last up is Emily of Emily Porter Photography. She recently experienced the wedding as a bride instead of a wedding photographer! I found her post on that extremely helpful for me... I am often wondering what settings people who are photographing me have their equipment set at; are they aware that the sun is going to create a light flare, or do they want that effect?!?! I am definitely nervous that I will just want to photo geek talk with my Aunt who will be our photog all night! I love the sweet decor and the personality in their wedding day... hello, Angry Birds lollipops! haha
I am currently uploading my future sister and brother-in-law's wedding photos for them to share with friends and family and spent almost all last night working on their album! I still have to meet with her and get her approval before I send it to press, but I am feeling really accomplished. Part of the reason I haven't done more on our wedding is because I've been dragging out theirs with the post-processing. Getting all this done makes me feel finally ready to get things going for ours! Eeep!
What are the things you look for most in a wedding?
Oh, and one more question... do you feel it is necessary to have a big sit down dinner at a wedding, or something more casual? I personally like the casual take, but I've had lots of nay-sayers. What say ye?!?

Wedding Wednesday: Pause
Basically, I have run out of inspiration for Wedding Wednesday, so rather than bore you all with mediocre wedding posts, I have decided to put the feature on "pause". When I start making more plans and getting excited again, it will no doubt pick back up!
You may have noticed some changes in my blog layout. I removed the long list of blogs I follow from the right sidebar, mostly because the list was HUGE! I am working on setting up a better page you can access from the top bar to recognize all the bloggers out there that keep me inspired! *edit: I discovered I can show the 5 most recently updated blogs, and you can click to see all of them if you want!*
Speaking of which, I definitely did a little happy dance when I saw one of my buttons has been linked to the "daily reads" page over at Kafe80s! I love Kristin's blog and her awesome style, so I am truly tickled to be on her radar! If you have a nostalgia for all things '80s, definitely check out her blog! I especially loved the Labyrinth post... not to mention her adorable kitties and their antics are highly entertaining, and she posts some pretty tasty recipes as well. Did I mention she's in a band? Awesome. If you grabbed a button from me, please let me know! I plan on saying something fun for each of you on here by way of gratitude!

I had never written a guest post before, and found it both fun and challenging. The subject matter is one I don't usually discuss, and I found it a lovely excuse to wander down memory lane... even though half the photos I wanted to use were on the PC that died. If anyone wants me to write one for your blog, I would love to take up the challenge again!
